I absolutely loved this book. I picked it up after reading Kayt’s review of the The Devil Wears Prada. I haven’t gotten much sleep since I’ve started reading it because I wanted to stay up late at night to see what happens next. This is just a fun easy read. It’s about Andrea Sachs, a girl fresh out of college with aspirations of being a serious writer for “The New Yorker”. She ends up working as an assistant to the editor, Miranda Priestly, of fictional fashion magazine called “Runway”. She accepts this job after being told by everyone that it’s the job “a million girls would die for” with the hopes that after paying her dues, she’ll be able to get enough experience to follow her dreams of being a serious writer. The woman she works for is a nightmare with completely unrealistic expectations. It’s hilarious to read about what ridiculous task Andrea will next be faced with completing with a second’s notice from her she-devil boss.

I had so much fun reading this book. I loved that it was set in Manhattan because it was fun to be familiar with a lot of the bars, shops and restaurants mentioned. Also, I think we can all relate to having a job that we hate, but not wanting to quit because we feel like the perks outweigh the horror we’re living at work. It was also fun to learn more about the fashion industry. It made me think that it is insane that so much money is wasted on fashion and how awful it is that women try to live up to unrealistic expectations that are set by the fashion industry. However, as one that will admit to be seduced by the fashion industry I thought, wow, if I was ten years younger I would suck it up and work for this evil woman to get free Prada, access to 24/7 car service and an unlimited expense account!

There were a few story lines that seemed rushed at the end to finish the book, but I still really enjoyed the book. If you’re looking for a fun, easy read, I highly recommend this book! I hope they make it into a movie.
