I really liked this movie a lot. I can't pinpoint exactly why, but it really got to me. It was sweet and tender but also a bit sad and depressing. I thought the acting by Claire Danes and Steve Martin was amazing. I liked the way it was shot as well, the music and the camera angles were really interesting.
Netflix Synopsis: Lovely but lonely Mirabelle (Claire Danes) feels purposeless selling gloves in a world where they're hardly ever worn. But her sad-sack days are soon enlivened by Ray (Steve Martin), a rich suitor who showers her with sex and attention. Mirabelle soaks it all up but yearns for more commitment, which Ray can't give. So when she meets the penniless but sincere Jeremy (Jason Schwartzman), she wonders if it's time to give up one man for the other. | Was their age difference at all creepy? |
 | I've been debating whether or not to add this to my Netflix, because I wasn't sure if there'd be enough depth to the characters and the story. I love the actors, though. Thanks, Tracy. |

I was reading some reviews on Netflix and quite a few people mentioned being creeped out by the sex scenes but didn't find them creepy at all, I thought they were tasteful. For one, the scenes weren't very graphic, but also, I think because it was Steve Martin, he just seems so harmless to me. |
 | Haven't seen the movie, but I did read the novella which was written by Steve Martin. I must say, it didn't inspire me to go out and rent the movie. But, I do think love the actors, and given the fact you liked the movie so much, perhaps I will give it a try! |
 | tracy wrote on May 8, '06 That's what I would think, too. The two times an age difference has disturbed me was Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Harrison Ford and Anne Heche. Actually, to be honest, the scene with the younger guy creeped me out a bit more b/c I just wasn't into him or the way it was happening. It wasn't very romantic. |
