for everyone
Category:Movies
Genre: Romance
I didn't find this movie that good, but it was mildly entertaining. I'd probably give it 2 1/2 stars if that was an option. I didn't find any of the characters all that believable so it was hard for me to get into the movie. Olivier Martinez was in it though which was probably why I'd add the extra 1/2 star.

Netflix Synopsis: Tennessee Williams's elegiac first novel finds widowed American actress Karen Stone (Helen Mirren) at loose ends after she falls for a handsome -- and much younger -- Italian gigolo (Oliver Martinez). All the classic Williams dramatic bells and whistles are present here (for example, idyllic love that ends in dangerous chaos). Co-stars Anne Bancroft and Brian Dennehy.

Stupid question... is the title a purposeful parody of "the romancing of the stone?"

I'm sure that was the inspiration of Tennessee Williams' novel. =)

Was this a remake? I think there was a movie with the same name made back in the 60's with Vivien Leigh and I can't remember who played the younger guy. I can't even remember if I saw it or not.

Yes, you're right. Vivien Leigh and Warren Beatty were in the original.

Thanks for the info. Maybe you should rent the old one and compare the two.
