for everyone
Category:Movies
Genre: Drama
I absolutely loved this movie. I was on edge throughout the film and on the verge of tears and felt like the rest of the audience felt the same way. It's a thought provoking film that made me really sad but it's the reality of our world. Even with the sadness of the movie there was just enough beauty in the film so that it wasn't a total downer. The movie takes place in LA and it really shows the ugliness of humanity....racism, bad cops, people who think they aren't racist but when push comes to shove still make judgment based on race, crooked politicians that think it's OK if it's for a better cause, people that you hate in the beginning but they eventually show some hint of the possibility that they could be a better person, etc. I felt like it was very original but also somewhat reminiscent of other films I've seen in the past such as Traffic, Colors, Training Day. I really hope people see it and see the error in their ways, but it's also a reminder of some things that will probably never change. Most of the performances were amazing. The only one I wasn't thrilled with was Brendan Fraser. I just didn't find him believable as a DA and Sandra Bullock's husband.

Netflix Synopsis: A 36-hour period in the diverse metropolis of post-Sept. 11 Los Angeles is the theme of this unflinching drama that challenges audiences to confront their prejudices. Lives combust when a Brentwood housewife and her district attorney husband, a Persian shopkeeper, two cops, a pair of carjackers and a Korean couple all converge. Director Paul Haggis's gritty film stars Sandra Bullock, Brendan Fraser, Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon and Jennifer Esposito.

Well, I haven't seen it but I probably would find him the same way you found him. I htnk that would be simply because I'm used to seeing him in comedies. I'd look at his handsome face and still, all I'd see is comedy.

I also thought this was a pretty solid movie. It's one of those movies that I think can generate a lot of discussion about feelings concerning race and stereo-types. One of the aspects that worked me the most given this film were the insights that there are reasons for the way people are. Meaning people aren't born racist, it's either taught or learned along the way.

Here was my full review of the movie:

Ha-ha. I guess this type of movie falls in the same category as movies like Saving Private Ryan. They're not "entertaining" movies in the traditional sense. So the people I've talked to that don't care for this flick cite that reason, that it wasn't so much the story but that it was a depressing flick. Which it was an emotional roller coaster of a flick, especially the whole "magic cape" incident. It also had some strong language and some nudity, so for some that detracts from the film's appeal.

But hey, I think the message was powerful and something that hopefully will get people to thinking. :D

that was the worst! honestly, i could feel the tension in the theatre during that scene.

I just saw this about a week ago and it's one of my new favorites. At first I didn't like it, but as everything started to unfold, I just sat on the edge of my seat. And the message behind it was so good. I haven't seen a movie I thought about so much afterwards in a long time!

I felt the tension there too. My heart dropped because through that whole scene, you knew what was coming, but you didn't want it to happen.
