ReviewNapoleon Dynamite (2004)Apr 24, '05 6:37 PM
for everyone
Category:Movies
Genre: Independent
I was disappointed. This movie got some good reviews and did well at the Sundance Film festival so I was expecting to like it more. I found it boring and the characters too exaggerated to be able to relate to them on any level. There were a few funny scenes, but they were so rare that I quickly lost interest.

Synopsis from Neflix: This indie favorite follows Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder), a quirky, ninja-loving teenager growing up in the far reaches of Idaho. Napoleon's life gets complicated when his shady Uncle Rico (John Gries) shows up, a shy girl (Tina Majorino) starts showing him some attention and his best friend Pedro (Efren Ramirez) decides to run for school president. Nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in 2004.

I couldn't get past the first 30 minutes. I'm impressed you sat through the whole thing.

I think for the most part you have to be HS age or younger to appreciate the ridiculousness of this flick. My kids absolutely love it! They all quote Napoleon Dynamite. It's a stupid cult movie. I've watched some of it with them, but found it too sophomoric for my tastes. However, I could see where the kids would enjoy it. Silly, stupid, idiot humor.

I really haven't seen the reviews, but my sister loves the movie and even bought it on DVD...by the way, she's 32 and just a bit older than HS age :)...I liked the American Pie movies, so I might give this a try the next time I'm at Blockbuster...

I'm in my 40s and I'll admit, after a few glasses of wine this movie is pretty funny!

Interesting, Dave (davedill that is) and I were discussing just that. I had you in your 30s, but he had you in your 50s. I guess neither of us won that bet.

You know, I was going to make a comment about you throwing your age in there, but decided to let it go. See what I get for my trouble?

I'm a lot closer to being in my 30s than 50s! So if there really was a bet, I'd say Dave owes you $$$.

Why the heck am I bothering with this?

Napolean Dynamite. I don't need the wine to laugh at American Pie. ;-)

I agree! I laughed so hard that tears rolled down my face! If you haven't seen them, I definitely recommend all 3 movies. 5 stars!

Boy, you'd think you'd recognize sarcasm by now (on Roan's part). I guess you've lost your sense of humor with age...

AHEM right back at you - did you notice where I said on Roan's part? Maybe you should use the correct part of the bifocals when you read the screen, young lady.

PS - Just to help you, the last italicized comment was sarcasm - it's just up to you to figure out which word was meant sarcastically...or was it both???

Dave. You know, you keep pushing, she's gonna fly to PA and beat your face in. You're such a big wimp, you couldn't do a thing about it. Why antagonize her??

PS. If you do go, Debbie. Please let me know, we'll need someone to take pictorial evidence to post

Dave is not a wimp, he is merely too much of a gentleman to ever need to repsond in turn with violence. Besides, I have his back.

First and foremost, you are correct - I am a gentleman - all my bitches say so.

Secondly, perhaps Barbara has been listening to her extensive Billy Idol CD collection too much and had the song "Mony, Mony" on her mind...

I was going on the fact that you take the dishes out of the sink before you pee in it, but if your bitches say so then I can readily concur.

I see Barbara as more of a Sigue Sigue Sputnik fan.

Hey, I'm not in high school, or of that age. But I thought the humor was subtle, not stupid. I thought it was a duality of funny -ha ha, and funny -sad. I can't believe you all hated this movie. It's got a different pace from what Hollywood generally puts out, but I liked it.
