I really enjoyed this film. It starts out with 4 people having dinner at a restaurant discussing theater. One person gives some basic details of a story of a woman showing up unexpectedly at a dinner party. One of his writer friends thinks it would make a great tragedy and the other thinks it would make a great comedy. You then see the story unfold as a tragedy and as a comedy. I haven’t seen all of Woody Allen’s films, but from what I’ve seen this would probably be more similar to his older work. It’s a large cast of neurotic New Yorkers with relationship and work issues. I thought it was really funny. Will Farrell was great in the movie. I also really liked seeing Radha Mitchell in a leading role. It was interesting to see how the two stories were very different in many ways yet still overlapped.

Netflix Synopsis: Woody Allen's film stars Radha Mitchell as Melinda, a woman who comes undone at a dinner party, spilling details about her life dramas. Two writers in her impromptu audience see two sides of the same story: In the first, Melinda's problems hasten the breakup of her pal Laurel's (Chloë Sevigny and Jonny Lee Miller) marriage; and in the second, Melinda throws another couple, Susan and Hobie (Amanda Peet and Will Ferrell), into a hilarious tizzy.

no, i didn't get a personal email from you. it's funny you mentioned "dear frankie" because that is what i was originally planning to see on saturday. however, when i re-checked the schedule, "dear frankie" was no longer playing so i went to see Melinda and Melinda.

I will definitely check out all of the movies you mentioned.
