Now there is really no excuse to use your cell phone without a headset while driving. It's dangerous to you and me. It's also illegal in some states (although nobody seems to obey the law). This site was featured on the Rachel Ray show.

I'll be glad when they ban cell phones from car period... way too dangerous... and it scares me driving along side, in front of or behind anyone on a cell because i KNOW they aren't paying attention like they should.

Colorado is taking a first step by banning texting in moving vehicles. And the heaviest penalties are for folks aged 16 to 21... they will lose their license for 5 years.

You're right. It's frightening. I just started driving again when we moved to CA after almost 9 years of not driving. I can't tell you how many times I have someone tailgating me while talking on their cell phone. It really scares me. Cell phones weren't as mainstream when I used to drive before moving to NYC.

We drove without them through the mid 90s I see no reason why banning them nationally would cause so much grief.. except to maybe the teens but they are too young and invulnerable to know the danger.

Yes, just remember, still no dialing while driving!! Make your calls before you start driving!

Now how can I get people to stop tailgating me?!?!?

ha! it's not that i drive slow. i just refuse to tailgate other people to get them to go faster which is what people try to do to me. i won't get within 4-5 car lengths of the person in front of me. i think i learned that in drivers ed and i follow the rules. :-)

does kenny only look at multiply when he has a "smart" comment to make to me?

Yeah basically.....afterall what are brothers for?

No, he was right by the computer & I asked him "your sister wants to know how people will stop taigating her?" and that was his response.

I'm with you. I've seen enough rear-endings that I always stay at least a few seconds back...

Here's what my drivers ed taught me to try to get tailgaters to back off, and it actually works more often than not.

Tap the brakes just enough to activate your brake lights (without actually slowing down--leave your other foot on the accelerator. You just want to warn them, not get rear ended... Especially don't slow down if they're on a cell phone or dealing with some other distraction!).
A few tries of that should concern the person behind you enough to get them to back off -- either because they understand that's code for back off, or because they don't know what the crazy lady in front of them is doing.

(if it doesn't help, just give up. either let them pass, or do your best to ignore them...)
